UC Irvine Extension Launches ''Finding and Investing in Foreclosures,'' Recruits Famed ''Dr. Dani'' as Instructor

New Online Course Offering Designed to Cater to Buyers in Today’s Burgeoning Foreclosure Market

The University of California, Irvine Extension, which has become renowned for offering cutting-edge curriculum uniquely designed to meet the timely needs of the community, has developed a new course titled, “Finding and Investing in Foreclosures.” The highly-topical six-week course offered online, runs from Oct. 15 to Nov. 30, is particularly relevant in today’s real estate market, which the Center for Responsible Lending projects will experience approximately 2.2 million new foreclosures throughout the year ahead. UC Irvine Extension has recruited nationally-recognized industry leader, author and frequently called upon media commentator, Danielle Babb, PhD, MBA – a.k.a. “Dr. Dani” – to lead the course and share her insight gleaned from more than 12 years in the industry.

“We’re currently in the midst of one of the hottest foreclosure markets of the last 30 years,” notes Babb. “The timing couldn’t be better for Baby Boomers, who may be struggling to get into a home in the area where they’d like to spend their retirement. It’s also prime timing for Gen X- and Y-ers who perhaps haven’t moved away from apartment living because of the expense of current home prices. Even if families simply want to move into a better neighborhood at the same price, or are looking to invest in a market known for being more stable than playing the stocks – buying in at today’s low foreclosure prices can be very lucrative and exciting.”

“Finding and Investing in Foreclosures” will lead students through the various stages of the foreclosure process, from insider tips for locating foreclosure and pre-foreclosure homes, to insight regarding how to make an offer, take it to the bank, and have it funded. The course will also cover what to do once the purchase is made, how to asses the home’s current value, and how to rent out or resell the property. Throughout the course, students will uncover pitfalls to avoid, and strategies for ensuring their assets are protected. Additionally, they will learn how to make money in a strong foreclosure market, and the role the Internet has played in the ability for average investors to take part in this marketplace.

Babb also plans to dispel the common myths and taboos surrounding the purchase of foreclosure homes.

“We’ll talk a lot about the most sensitive ways to purchase a foreclosure home,” explains Babb. “There is a series of tactics that can be implemented to both preserve the seller’s credit score and define the situation in as positive a light as possible for both the buyer and the seller. We will stress doing everything possible to make the situation as much of a win-win as possible.”
