Standardization of Care Provides Critical Thinking Skills For Better Quality of Patient Care
Versant Advantage, Inc., developers of the Versant RN Residency™, today announced that Seton Family of Hospitals has selected Versant’s evidence-based, outcome-driven education solution to enhance their nursing pipeline. The Versant RN Residency gives Seton a powerful recruitment tool that will increase the retention rate of new nurses and expand the training and staffing of acute care units, contributing to better patient outcomes.
Seton’s implementation of the Versant RN Residency complements their high standards for quality of patient care with four hospitals in their system having achieved Magnet Status. Versant’s standardized training curriculum and research measurement tools will enable Seton to successfully transition new RNs from novice to advanced beginner in only 18-weeks. The program allows hospital nurse management to evaluate each RN on a daily basis and see progress in real time, preventing clinical errors and promoting learning.
“With the Versant RN Residency we are now able to measure confidence and competence levels at each step of the new RN’s journey, thereby bridging the gap between academia and clinician,” said Joyce Batchellor, Seton’s senior vice president, chief nursing officer and Robert Wood Johnson executive nurse fellow. “From ongoing evaluations, coordination of training for residents and preceptors, as well as the opportunity to provide veteran nurses with the chance to mentor enthusiastic new hires entering the field, the residency is truly a comprehensive solution and a superior way to hire new nurse graduates.”
As part of the Versant RN Residency in adult acute care, graduate RNs complete a rigorous training program that features ongoing evaluation, Web-facilitated clinical modules and skills labs. Throughout the duration of the program, residents are supported by a network of senior nurses who act as preceptors, mentors and debriefers to further ensure that they are well-equipped to deliver safe patient care. Mastery of critical thinking skills, coordination of care, and time management are among the numerous core competencies that must be met as part of the successful completion of the residency.
“A growing number of healthcare systems have embraced the evidence-based, outcome-driven paradigm that is designed to engender capacity-building among new RN hires and seasoned nursing veterans,” said Charles Krozek, RN, MN, president and managing director of Versant Advantage, Inc. “An investment in sustainable education/training initiatives often reduces strain on nursing staff. We look forward to collaborating with the Seton Family of Hospitals for the benefit of their patients and the communities they serve.”
