MDI and Texas Region 4 ESC to Begin Work on the LearnSafe Initiative Model Program
MDI, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDII), the leading provider of total school safety and security management solutions for the educational industry, today announced that it is teaming with The Cooperative Purchasing Network (TCPN) to launch a campus risk assessment program designed to assist Texas school districts in complying with State safety and security audits as part of Senate Bill 11 (SB11). SB11 calls for school districts to conduct security audits, at least once every three years, across all district facilities, and report results to the board of trustees and the state. MDI will perform the assessments, deliver the results to school administrators and present, as needed, the findings to the school superintendent and school Board of Trustees. The mandatory State deadline for completion of the first round of district audits is August 31, 2008.
The risk assessments will be offered under MDI’s TCPN contract. TCPN is an operating unit of the Texas Region 4 Education Service Center (Region 4 ESC), and can be used by public and private schools, colleges, universities, cities, counties and other government agencies to purchase products and services without having to undergo the high costs and extensive time associated with a competitive bidding process. TCPN has customers utilizing their contracts in 41 states. Last year, 67% of Texas school districts utilized the contract.
The strategic alliance with TCPN and the ESC is designed to provide:
* In-depth risk assessments completed by seasoned security professionals
* A consistent and comprehensive safety and security program, customized to each district’s needs
* Constant monitoring, maintenance and facilities management services to assure effectiveness
* The benchmarking necessary to alleviate select school operating burdens
* The ability for all districts, regardless of size or financial base, to become LearnSafe Certified™
MDI, Inc. has also begun work on an agreement with Region 4 Education Service Center to develop a model, with the assistance of the Center’s Program Managers, which will make the LearnSafe Initiative™ accessible and economically feasible for all school districts in Texas and nationwide. Region 4 provides school districts with professional development and technical assistance that supports statewide goals for school improvement and student achievement.
After a risk assessment or audit has been performed at a district, there may be issues at hand that call for the services of a professional security consulting team. As a comprehensive solution designed to mitigate the risks found after the assessment, MDI will work with Texas school district superintendents to provide a total safety and security management solution as part of the Center’s LearnSafe Certified™ model program.
