UC Irvine Extension Offers Informative ''The Capital Markets'' Course in Easily Accessible Online Format
The University of California, Irvine Extension has announced the latest addition to its OpenCourseWare (OCW) product offering by making one course in its Investor Relations Certificate Program free to the public. “The Capital Markets,” a course part of UC Irvine Extension’s online Investor Relations Certificate Program was developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Investor Relations (NIRI) and is consistent with the Investor Relations Body of Knowledge and Digest of Articles.
“The Capital Markets” was developed to educate busy investor relations about the inner workings of the domestic and global securities markets. Investor relations professionals play a pivotal link between their organization and the outside world. Tasked with keeping corporate officers, shareholders and potential investors up-to-date on the financial state of the company as well as the current investment market, the busy schedules of investor relations professionals served as the impetus for the University’s online course format, which is accessible at any time of the day, from anywhere in the world.
“Investor relations officers play a critical role in the communication to the investment community to ensure that their companies are accurately valued,” explained Lori Munoz Reiland, director of Business, Management, Legal, Information Technology and Corporate Solutions at UC Irvine Extension. “One of the most fundamental ways to do this is to stay abreast of the latest market trends. This course is a hassle-free way for professionals to stay current and better serve their companies and the University is pleased to make it available for free to the business community and the public.”
The course examines the menu of securities available in today’s market and the attributes of the various types of securities. Participants will also discuss the trend toward globalization of capital markets, learning why the market has begun to shift and how they can adapt.
Additional topics covered in the course include:
* The purpose of capital markets
* Capitalization structure
* The role of investment bankers and brokers
* How global and domestic securities function
* Organized exchanges for stocks and bonds, and securities trading
