First ‘College Issue’ of The New York Times Sunday Magazine Draws Strong Advertiser Response

This Sunday’s New York Times Magazine – The College Issue – examines a wide range of topics, from the admissions process to the importance of college rankings and the value of a college education in today’s world. It is the first college-themed issue for The Magazine and drew strong advertiser response with a total of 104 advertising pages. The category of education has 20 pages, the most that The Magazine has ever had in that sector.

The College Issue features the results of an in-depth poll conducted by The New York Times and mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, about students’ personal experiences with higher education, and highlights the winning essay from a nationwide contest on campus culture today. Additional content at www.nytimes.com/magazine includes an original video about suicide on campus by documentary filmmaker Deirdre Fischel; an audio of the contest winner reading the selected essay; and an interactive feature allowing users to read and discuss the hundreds of essays submitted.

“The College Issue provides an excellent opportunity for advertisers to showcase their brands to this audience of young adults and their parents, as well as The Times’s traditional readers,” said Alexis Buryk, senior vice president, advertising, The New York Times. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the advertiser response to our first college-themed issue.”
