Implementations and Upgrades Demonstrate Software’s Appeal in Local Government and School District Environments
With a firm commitment from Oracle to support the software for the long run, PeopleSoft ERP applications continue to experience strong growth in the public sector. Two of the largest school districts in the country, The School District of Palm Beach County in Florida (165,000 students) and Fort Bend Independent School District in Texas (68,000 students) recently partnered with system integrator eVerge Group to convert their financial and HR systems to PeopleSoft.
The last twelve months have also seen a marked increase in the number of current PeopleSoft customers upgrading their existing PeopleSoft applications and acquiring new functionality. Many of these customers have upgraded to Version 8.9, with more recent upgrades moving to 9.0 (released in early 2007).
eVerge Group, an Oracle Certified Partner with a dedicated focus on public sector customers recently completed upgrade projects at City of Oklahoma City, City of Plano and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative; and is currently working on upgrade projects at North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), University of North Texas, Wichita Public Schools, City of Fresno and the San Diego Unified School District. Additional upgrade projects are currently in negotiations. According to eVerge Group president, Esteban Neely, “It makes sense for PeopleSoft customers to be upgrading now, not only because of added functionality and extended software support, but because versions 8.9 and 9.0 include certain middleware components that support enhanced integration and position the customer for impending future releases of Fusion applications.”
PeopleSoft ERP applications have traditionally been popular in the public sector because the software’s ease of use and the flexibility to address unique local government and school district needs such as commitment accounting and budgeting, as well as departmental position requirements.
